Teller Historic and Environmental Coalition is a non-profit association formed by community leaders in October, 2000 to encourage cooperation among groups working to preserve Teller County's natural resources and historic heritage. Goals and Objectives

The Board of Directors, members, and volunteers of T.H.E. Coalition work to:

  • Support member organizations
  • Facilitate communication among nonprofits and with the community at large
  • Promote collaboration among organizations with common goals
  • Provide 501(c)(3) nonprofit status for member groups
  • Increase awareness among Teller County residents of the importance of the natural environment and historic landmarks

Accomplishments

  • Managed the five-year collaborative effort among Rural Land Preservation Group (RLPG), Palmer Land Trust, and Teller County Parks to preserve "in perpetuity"
  • 1,300 acres of scenic landscape and wildlife habitat along Highway 24, completing the 5,000 acre Pikes Peak Conservation Corridor between Woodland Park and Divide
  • Helps member organizations identify donors and obtain grants
  • Serves as fiscal agent for the Victor Penguins, the Two Mile High Club, and RLPG
  • Co-sponsors RLPG's popular series of forums for ranchers and landowners "It's My Land, So What Are My Options?"
  • Sponsors grant-writing workshops in collaboration with the Rampart Library District
  • Established and maintains The Resource Center for Nonprofits at the Woodland Park Public Library with a broad range of hard-copy and on-line references
  • Publishes a quarterly newsletter; hosts a website with relevant links
